To be perfectly honest, I still think it should be "a pair of scissors" if you want to use it in singular form, and just "scissors" if you want to use it in plural form! I don't think "a scissor" exists!
You should also look into "a pair of trousers" for us, Dan. (No sarcasm intended whatsoever.)
